Oh what a week!

collage pic of my week

Every week in my life as CEO at Flexible Childcare Services Scotland is interesting, every week is busy, and every week I learn something new.

The week that has just ended was a mammoth week with so many milestone moments, big decisions, and plans made both professionally and personally.

It was also a very expensive week!!!, including prom dress shopping and booking an 18th birthday party, to be held at Falkirk Football Stadium, for my youngest daughter.

Here are just a few of the things (apart from the cost of prom dresses and parties) that made the first week in February a week to remember:

  1. Our new Operations Manager, Michaela Loughlin, joined the team. Michaela started on Monday morning and in typical FCSS style our planned civilised, first in person meeting, at our Dundee office, ended up being an on site meeting at our Dundee building project, resolving a wee resource issue. All sorted and a great example of why we need an Ops Manager to join the team.
  2. A dry run through of our CivTech demo day presentation…nerves bubbling softly  away at just the right level to keep the adrenaline gently rolling…then boom slide deck issues on screen meant a spike in adrenaline and a bit of a WTF!!! moment. Hopefully having had the problem now will mean all runs super smoothly on demo day.
  3. First draft of a business plan for our new trading subsidiary completed, board discussions, funding discussions and lots of team talk…resulting in agreement to incorporate a new company, wholly owned by FCSS, the charity…exciting times!
  4. Great responses from parents and providers to our school age childcare project, giving us really positive numbers on our MVP.
  5. Phase 2 plans signed off for our Fintry Community Hub and FCSS HQ.
  6. A visit to Centrestage, Kilmarnock, to see the amazing progress that has been made on our exciting new early learning and childcare facility and to plan for our school age childcare service.
  7. A new Treasurer agreed to join our Board at FCSS. Thank you Alastair, we’re really looking forward to working with you.
  8. More plans put in place for FCSS Additional Support Needs work rolling out in Stirling.

I would say let’s see what next week brings but I already know that it includes CivTech Demo Day, where I’ll be presenting on stage at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms. The event, taking place on Tuesday, will be live-streamed and you can register here to view.

Dress rehearsal Monday and I’ve treated myself to a beautiful Orla Kiely dress for the occasion…this week has definitely been a tough one for my bank balance.
